COMPAQ DIVISION TO FOCUS ON CONSUMER MARKET

Compaq Canada of Richmond Hill, Ont. has established a separate division to focus on the consumer market. Called the Consumer Business Unit, the division will focus on the marketing and sales of its consumer PCs. Previously, consumer PCs were supported by existing departments. Ralph Hyatt has been named Consumer Business Unit manager, responsible for the organization's overall performance. Previously he was product marketing manager. According to IDC Canada, Compaq had a 14% share of the Canadian consumer PC market as of the third quarter of 1997. Advertising for Compaq Canada is done by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto.
