THE GLOBE AND MAIL CHANGES TORONTO COVERAGE
By Adnews Staff
The Globe and Mail is targeting Torontonians with its latest redesign. The newspaper is now publishing all of its Toronto news on one page of the national section. In addition, the page will feature John Barber's column, as well as news, features and commentaries under the titles Toronto Live, Mayhem and Fair Notice respectively. Toronto Live will focus on the daily life of the city, which will include news briefs and features on the hot button issues of the day. Mayhem will focus on crime, scandal and the latest traffic nightmares. Fair Notice will provide highlights of the day's activities such as special events, parades, road construction and weather warnings. Previously, Toronto news was interspersed throughout the national section. The new city coverage is the latest component of an ongoing strategy to improve The Globe and Mail. The changes began in 1995 with the expansion of the Report on Business section. In 1996, the newspaper expanded the weekend paper and most recently increased the Sports section.
