GENERAL MILLS BRINGS WHEATIES TO CANADA

Toronto-based General Mills Canada will offer Canadians the breakfast of champions next month. The company will bring its Maple Frosted Wheaties cereal to the national market next month, just prior to the 1998 Olympic games in Nagano, Japan. The brand was made specifically for Canada to promote the company's sponsorship of the Olympic games. This is the first time the Wheaties brand has been available in Canada. In English Canada, the Wheaties box will feature men's ice hockey champion Brendan Shanahan and women's ice hockey star Cassie Campbell. In Quebec, Maple Frosted Wheaties boxes will feature hockey stars Eric Desjardins and Nancy Drolet. General Mills will announce advertising plans for the brand next month. Advertising for General Mills in Canada is done by FCB Canada of Toronto. Public Relations is being done by Strategic Objectives of Toronto.
