CHARITIES TEAM UP ON ISSUES AFFECTING YOUNG GIRLS

Three Canadian charity organizations have joined forces to help raise awareness of disturbing issues facing girls around the world. The three organizations are: World Vision Canada, Save the Children Canada and Christian Children's Fund of Canada. The three recently launched a national print and outdoor campaign to raise such issues as sexual slavery, female genital mutilation and abusive labor practices. The ad raising awareness of female genital mutilation features a large pair of scissors over the headline: "You may not have been expecting a message about female genital mutilation." The tagline reads: "Then again, millions of girls weren't expecting to be victims. Often performed with unsterilized scissors on girls as young as five, female genital mutilation can have devastating effects." The ad focusing on sex slavery tells people that girls as young as ten are being exploited in the global sex trade and the ad raising the issue of abusive labor practices tells people that young girls are forced to work inhumane hours for little or no pay. It then goes on to say that international governments are being pressured to regulate against these practices. The ad campaign was created by Ellis Teichman Communications of Toronto. The French translation for the campaign was done by Esprit International Communications of Montreal.
