GREY PROMOTES SPECIAL OLYMPICS
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Grey Canada launched a campaign earlier this month for the 1997 Sports Celebrities Festival that is being organized by the Special Olympics. The campaign uses newspaper, magazine, TV, radio and transit ads, as well as pixelboards and direct mail. The ads create a link between well-known Canadian athletes, such as Marnie McBean and Roger Clemens, to Special Olympics athletes to convey the idea that all athletes have the dream of success and victory in common. The Festival Day is being held in Toronto on Dec. 3. It begins with a Breakfast of Champions hosted by Brian Williams and Jerry Howarth. Athletes Marnie McBean, Curt Harnett, Darryl Sittler and Roger Clemens will be there to sign autographs. Later there will be a Darryl Sittler skate and the day will close with dinner and an auction. Over 150 items will be auctioned including a Toyota Corolla, a power boat, an all-terrain vehicle, plus trips to major sporting events around the world such as World Cup Soccer, the Monaco Grand Prix, the Superbowl, the Stanley Cup Finals and the U.S. Open. Money raised from the event will benefit the Special Olympics National Summer Games in Sudbury, Ont. next July.
