NINTENDO PLAYS ON TETRIS POPULARITY
By Adnews Staff
Japan-based Nintendo Corp. introduced a new video game for its Nintendo 64 game system to the North American market this week. Called Tetrisphere, the game is similar to the company's Tetris game, combining the puzzle solving skills of Tetris with fast-paced action, 3-D graphics and sound. The object of Tetrisphere is to get to the core of a sphere and free a character by removing pieces. The strategy is to match similarly shaped pieces on the same layer or through multiple layers to create combinations for destruction. There are six modes of play including head-to-head competition. The game was developed by H2O Entertainment Corp. of Calgary. In Canada, Tetrisphere will be promoted using PR done by GCI Communications of Toronto. The Nintendo 64 game system was launched in September 1996. There are currently 19 games available to be played on the system.
