SAAN OPENS STORES IN QUEBEC AND ATLANTIC CANADA

Winnipeg-based SAAN Stores has gone national. The family clothing chain opened outlets in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces, bringing its number of stores to 330. SAAN opened the new outlets after it bought 89 MMG locations from Gendis Inc. of Winnipeg. MMG placed its 169-store retail chain in bankruptcy last February after Gendis withdrew financial support for MMG. MMG operated a family clothing chain under the Metropolitan Met, MetMart, Greenberg and Red Apple/Pomme Rouge banners. Gendis is also SAAN's parent company. SAAN will operate the stores under the SAAN, Red Apple/Pomme Rouge banners. There are also a few clearance centres. SAAN is promoting the stores using flyers and newspapers done in-house. National TV ads are promoting the chain's 50th anniversary. Prior to the purchase SAAN operated 253 SAAN stores in Ontario and British Columbia.
