GOLF CHANNEL TO ENTER CANADA
By Adnews Staff
The Golf Channel of Orlando, Florida has received approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to enter Canada and hopes to launch the service here by the end of the year, business affairs senior vice-president Chris Murvin told Adnews last week. Currently The Golf Channel is talking to satellite companies and cable operators to get them to distribute the station. The company plans to launch a trade campaign in Canada to promote the channel to cable operators. Once the station is launched, The Golf Channel will promote the station to consumers using print, TV, radio and billboards. The ads will be created by The Golf Channel's U.S. agency, Chrispen, Porter Boguskey of Miami, and the Canadian cable operators will adapt the ads for the Canadian market. The Golf Channel will offer 24-hour golf coverage including professional tournaments, classis golf tournaments of the past, instruction with teaching professionals, a nightly news show, live call-in, celebrity interviews and video tours of the world's greatest golf courses and destinations. The Golf Channel was founded by Arnold Palmer and Joe Gibbs. Its ownership has been expanded to include U.S. cable operators News Corp., Comcast and U.S. West.
