EPSON RELEASES NEW PRINTERS

U.S.-based Epson America introduced three new printers to the North American market this week called the LQ-670, Stylus Color 1520 and the Stylus Color 3000. The LQ-670 features a flatbed design featuring a straight horizontal paper feed and a printing speed of 300 characters per second. Eight barcode fonts have been built into the printer, including two UPC codes. The 1520 is an ink-jet printer that has wide format print capabilities, allowing it to produce color checkplots, financial spreadsheets, presentation materials and schematic design layouts in full-color at 1440 dpi resolution. It is targeted to general business markets including technical industries such as computer-aided engineering and geographical information systems. The 3000 printer is geared to graphic artists and digital photographers, enabling them to produce full-bleed color comps and presentation materials. In Canada, advertising plans for the machines are yet to be finalized. They will be created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of New York, while Epson Canada of Toronto will localize the ads and handle the Canadian media buying in-house.
