CLEARNET TO LAUNCH PCS IN FALL
By Adnews Staff
Clearnet Communications Inc. of Pickering, Ont. plans to launch its personal communications service this fall. Last week Clearnet announced an agreement with Cantel AT&T that will allow Clearnet to use Cantel's analog network, giving the company's PCS clients coast-to-coast service. Clearnet's PCS handsets will be dual-mode units, allowing users to switch from Cantel AT&T's analog system to Clearnet's digital network, depending on which coverage area they're in. Lighter, lower-powered and cheaper than cellular phones, PCS units give users access to such services as paging and e-mail. Clearnet is one of four companies with a PCS license in Canada. The others are Microcell Telecommunications, Rogers Cantel Mobile Communications and Mobility Personacom Canada. Taxi Adveritsing & Design of Toronto handles advertising for Clearnet. Media Experts of Montreal does media buying and Mosaic Direct of Toronto does direct mail. Clearnet officials were unavailable to comment on advertising plans for the service.
