Frito Lay begins Christmas chip campaign

Frito Lay Canada has begun a promotion in which it is attempting to establish a tradition of leaving out a bowl of potato chips for Santa Clause on Christmas Eve instead of cookies. The promotion began with the release of an “open letter,” purportedly from Santa Clause, requesting the change. The theme will continue to be used in a national advertising campaign. The company has also released a limited-edition potato chip called Miss Vickie's All Wishes in a holiday-themed bag. Consumers can receive a bag of the chips by visiting a campaign website at <http://www.missvickiesholidaywishes.ca>. A number of bags will be given away each day from Dec. 8 to 12. Consumers can also receive a bag by donate five dollars or more to a charity.

“This campaign started with one simple idea.” said Jess Spaulding, chief marketing officer at parent company PepsiCo Foods Canada. “What if Santa wanted an alternative to cookies? That really inspired us to think creatively about how Santa could speak for every Canadian who finds themselves wishing for a bowl of chips this holiday season.”
