RALEIGH STAKES CLAIM ON KEG CHAIN

Vancouver-based Raleigh Corp. has agreed to purchase Keg Restaurants Ltd. from Whitbread PLC of Britain. Estimated at $48.5 million, the sale is expected to be finalized in about six weeks. The Keg steak house chain consists of 81 outlets, 60 of which are in Canada, with the remainder in the U.S. Whitbread, a beer, sports and restaurant conglomerate, put the Keg up for sale last October, announcing it intended to concentrate on its European operations. David Aisenstat, Raleigh's president, told Adnews the takeover probably wouldn't have much affect on the Keg's advertising. He said there are no plans for any drastic changes to the Keg operation in the near future. Campbell & Partners of Toronto handles advertising for the Keg. Aisenstat is a former director and shareholder of Keg Restaurants and is also president of Hy's of Canada Ltd., the Vancouver-based operator of Hy's Steak Houses.
