INCREASED NEWSPRINT PRICES LOWER NET INCOME

Toronto-based Torstar Corp. has reported a $20 million increase in revenue in the quarter ending June 30, compared to the same quarter in 1994. However, because of increased newsprint prices, net income fell to $9.7 million, compared to $13.4 million a year earlier. Newspaper revenue was up 10% from $127 million to $139 million. For the six months ending June 30, revenue rose to $557 million from $510 million. Net income fell to $19.5 million from $21.9 million.
