NEW TRANSMISSION SYSTEM
By Adnews Staff
Cosmic Inventions of Cincinnati, Ohio introduced a new video transmission system targeted at ad agencies and advertisers to the worldwide market last month. Called Spot Rocket, the system allows users to send or receive decision-quality video, CD-quality audio tracks, animations, photographs and story boards. Company spokesperson John Walko defined decision-quality as the equivalent of a VHS tape - sharper than older video transmission technology, yet not as sharp as broadcast quality material. Consisting of a Compaq Pentium computer, keyboard, mouse, Spot Rocket software and audio and video cables, the system allows users to send quality video quickly to anywhere in the world where digital transmission is available, Wilko said. This makes it quicker and more cost-effective than couriering an ad to a distant client's office, he added. Spot Rocket utilizes MPEG compression technology, TCP/IP transfer protocol and ISDN phone lines. The company says the system is already in use at several global advertising agencies and a billion-dollar multi-national corporation. Cosmic Inventions is a developer of software and hardware for multimedia production and telecommunications.
