BMW EXTENDS WINTER DRIVER TRAINING PROGRAM

BMW Canada Inc. has expanded its winter driver training program in Quebec The company first introduced the program to British Columbia last year. The B.C. program lasts eight days and includes activities such as heli-skiing, as well as two days of driver training. The Quebec course will last only one or two days and concentrate almost exclusively on driving. Course participants will learn correct seating position, proper steering, braking techniques, accelerating on even surfaces and in corners, braking safely with and without ABS, steering in obstacle avoidance manoeuvres and emergency lane changes. All of the exercises will be on snow and ice-covered roads. Former Formula One driver Marc Surer and his instructor team will direct the class. The course is open to all drivers and begins on Feb. 9. Thomas Plucinsky, BMW Canada's corporate communications manager told Adnews the course has gotten enough response from BMW owners and that the company hasn't had to resort to outside advertising yet. The course is being promoted by in-house ads and articles in the BMW Club of Canada's magazine. Media relations are also being conducted by BMW Canada. BMW's outside advertising is handled by the Cundari Group Ltd. of Toronto.
