TELUS ADVERTISING FINALIZED

Edmonton-based telecommunications giant Telus Corp. has finished handing out its advertising assignments. The company's account had been divided into three portions for a review last fall: consumer business, business-to-business and media buying. The consumer business has been given to Ogilvy & Mather West. The business-to-business went to Margaret Kool Communications and media buying is now with Baron Communications. O&M of Calgary got the consumer business account without a review. The decision was based on the agency's work during Telus' branding campaign which launched in October. Edmonton-based Margaret Kool emerged from a short list of three to grab the business-to-business segment in a decision reached late last month. The other two short listed agencies were the Edmonton offices of Palmer Jarvis Communications and Continental Communications. Baron of Calgary came away with the media buying assignment in November, beating out Highwood Communications of Calgary, as well as Mediactive Inc. and Kaizen Media Services, both of Edmonton. Bill Gajda, Telus' vice-president of communications, told Adnews the consumer business advertising was valued up to $20 million and the business-to-business portion was worth up to $9 million. He said media buying is included in those figures. Gajda added O&M will be coming out with a new Telus campaign within the next several days. It will use TV and print in Alberta. Margaret Kool should be launching its first campaign around the end of January, Gajda said. It will probably run in print throughout Alberta.
