Ontario Power Generation begins dam safety campaign

Ontario Power Generation has begun a new campaign called "Stay Clear, Stay Safe" to raise awareness of the issue of dam safety. The campaign, developed by The Hive of Toronto, includes an animate video featuring a beaver spokescharacter named Dammy, who ignores a hydro dam warning sign while pursuing a fish. The 90-second ad ends with the copy, "Lots of fish there will always be, but just one you and just one me." The campaign is aimed primarily at anglers, cottagers and water enthusiasts.

"Summer is a dangerous time for people near the water," said Jennifer Rowe, senior vice-president of corporate affairs at Ontario Power Generation. "People don't understand the power of hydro dams and frequently ignore the warning signs. They think they'll be fine if they boat or swim just a little closer. We care about people's safety and wanted a campaign that would really resonate and connect with people and drive home the message that these dams can be extremely dangerous."
