MEMOREX GETS INTO HARDWARE INDUSTRY

California-based Memorex entered the computer hardware market late last month with the North American release of its Writesit CD-Recorder. The product can be mounted vertically and horizontally, has a double-door shell to prevent dust and heat problems and a fanless design. Writesit records at 2X and reads at 4X speed with an average access time of 350 milliseconds. Another CD-Recorder reading at 6X speed will be available later this month. A 12X drive will be released late in the first quarter of the year, and a 16X drive will be released in the third quarter. Advertising plans will be released at a future date. It will be created in the U.S. Memorex also makes audio and video magnetic tape.
