SHELL CONSOLIDATING GAS STATIONS

Calgary-based Shell Canada Ltd. will begin merging its private brand gasoline stations into the company's regular operations over the next several years. The three units affected will be Canadian Turbo Inc., Pay Less Gas Co. Ltd. and Beaver Fuels Management Ltd. Turbo has 240 outlets in Western Canada, Pay Less runs 43 stations in British Columbia and Beaver operates 100 stations in Ontario. Shell says the move will eliminate duplication and help the company's bottom line. Company spokesperson Donna Kraus-Hagerman told Adnews the changes should not affect the companies' advertising arrangements. Copeland Communications of Vancouver and The Venture Group of Calgary handle advertising for Canadian Turbo, Pay Less and Beaver. Calgary-based Ogilvy & Mather West creates Shell's advertising.
