LOTUS INTRODUCES NEW WEB SOFTWARE

U.S.-based Lotus Development Corp. introduced new products late last month for the World Wide Web. Available worldwide the products are called Domino.Merchant, Domino 4.5 Server and Notes 4.5 Client. Another product called Weblicator will be on the market sometime in the first quarter of the year. Merchant allows for secure transactions over the Internet. Domino 4.5 Server provides groupware applications for human resources, customer support and sales support to Web browser users. Notes 4.5 is used in conjunction with Domino 4.5. It provides Web browsing, a personal Web navigator database, as well as group calendaring and scheduling. Weblicator lets users use, manage and interact with Web information off-line, as if they were connected with the Web. It also lets users participate in interactive, Web-based business applications off-line, such as sales force automation or employee benefits tracking. Canadian advertising plans for the product will be announced in two weeks. Lotus in Canada hasn't decided yet whether it will use U.S. creative done by Ogilvy & Mather of New York, and then have the agency's Toronto office do the Canadian media buy, or if O&M in Toronto will do original creative for Canada.
