Ontario Medical Association conducts campaign

The Toronto-based Ontario Medical Association has begun an advertising campaign called "Not a Second Longer" intended to raise public awareness of the issue of patient wait times. The campaign will run in advance of the Ontario provincial election in June. It consists of radio commercials and digital elements highlighting "poor decisions" made by the Government of Ontario. The initiative also includes a website at <http://www.notasecondlonger.ca>.

"People are fed up with waiting intolerable amounts of time for procedures like hip and knee replacements and cataract surgery," said association president Shawn Whatley. "Just last week, the Financial Accountability Office found that health care spending is not keeping pace with our aging population. We've been saying this for years. The government just refuses to act. This government refuses to consult with doctors and it's damaging our healthcare system. Whoever forms government on June 7 should have a far more collaborative approach with health care professionals to show they care about solving this problem. Without a collaborative wait time strategy, our healthcare system will continue to erode."
