Super Channel, Ginx ready Canadian e-sports TV channel

Edmonton-based broadcaster Super Channel has formed an agreement with UK-based Ginx ESportsTV to launch a new 24-hour television channel aimed at video game fans. The content will consist of competitive video gaming and live tournament coverage, as well as news and lifestyle programming.

The new channel will be part of Super Channel's four multiplexed channels and will launch nationally in the spring or summer. It will be automatically available to existing Super Channel subscribers and available to other consumers through cable, satellite and IPTV providers.

"We are striving to provide unique and relevant entertainment for all members of the household on all devices, e-sports is now a key part of this mix," said Super Channel chief operating officer Don McDonald. "Our new venture with Ginx allows us to provide Canadian viewers with world-class e-sports TV, including the shows, events and hosts already enjoyed the world-over. It also provides the Canadian production community with an excellent opportunity to create new e-sports content, to be seen on Super Channel and potentially distributed around the world."

Super Channel is owned by Allarco Entertainment. The deal was brokered by FanTrust Entertainment Strategies.
