Corus readies Cooking Channel launch

Corus Entertainment of Toronto will launch a new lifestyle specialty television channel on Dec. 12 called Cooking Channel. The 24-hour channel will specialize in food and cooking programs. It is intended to be a companion to the company's existing Food Network Canada channel, both of which are properties of Scripps Networks Interactive. Cooking Channel launched in the United States in 2010. Cooking Channel will take the place of the Corus' W Movies channel.

"As leaders in specialty content, we are continuously evaluating our portfolio to ensure we are delivering audiences the best in entertainment," said Barbara Williams, chief operating officer at Corus Entertainment. "As the interest in food content continues to grow, we see an opportunity to add the tremendously successful Cooking Channel brand to our portfolio. With Cooking Channel's focus on serving those passionate about food and cooking, Food Network Canada will continue to bring Canadians dynamic, new entertainment-driven food related programming."
