HP ATTACKS COPIER MARKET
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Hewlett-Packard Ltd. hopes to make office copiers a thing of the past with the worldwide release of the mopier. Called the HP LaserJet 5Si, the product became available this week and is essentially a beefed-up laser printer that comes with several special features. These include automatic collating and stapling, software that allows print tasks to be sent to printers around the world and a large cache memory. In a press release, HP says the mopier should increase an organization's productivity by cutting down on trips from the laser printer to the copier. The release says the mopier prints 24 pages a minute. It also claims the product offers better paper-handling capabilities than those found in ordinary network printers. HP will begin a worldwide campaign for the mopier in the new year. Details have not yet been ironed out. In Canada, advertising for HP is done by Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising of Toronto.
