COREL PREPARING NETWORK COMPUTER

Corel Corp. of Ottawa added its name this week to the list of companies competing in the network computer market. The company hopes to launch a product by March of next year targeted at the business market. Network computers are terminals that operate without their own hard drives. They also don't require their own software. Instead, they retrieve their applications from a network server. Manufacturers claim they're cheaper to operate and maintain than traditional computer networks. The Corel computer will use the Java programming language and will include a digital camera. Corel spokesperson Chris Biber told Adnews the company will fit the new product into its existing worldwide advertising campaign that uses print, radio, TV and the Internet. Biber said the company still has to hammer out the specifics of the advertising, which will be done in-house.
