Tim Hortons readies hockey card promotion

Tim Hortons is preparing a contest promotion involving hockey cards. Beginning on Sept. 30, the coffee chain will begin selling three-card packs of collectable trading cards featuring National Hockey League players. Each card carries an identification number that can be entered online at <http://www.collecttowin.ca> to unlock a digital card. These cards can be traded online with other consumers to enter a draw for one of five trips to the 2016 NHL All-Star Weekend or one of 100 Sony PlayStation 4 video game consoles and copies of NHL 2016 from EA.

The company is promoting the contest with online videos featuring professional hockey players Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon working at a Tim Hortons drive-through window. Both will also appear in television advertising for the promotion.

"Hockey is part of Tim Hortons DNA," said Peter Nowlan, chief marketing officer at Tim Hortons Canada. "From our founder, NHL great Tim Horton, to partnerships at all levels of the sport, to our relationship with players like Sidney and Nathan, Tim Hortons has an innate connection to Canada's favourite game. The launch of Tim Hortons Collector's Series NHL Trading Cards and online trading platform is the next chapter of our hockey history. With the help of Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon, we're connecting with hockey fans, young and old, across the country by capturing the nostalgia of hockey card collecting in a new and exciting way."

The cards were developed in association with the NHL, the NHLPA and trading card company Upper Deck.
