Transport Canada begins laser safety awareness campaign

Transport Canada has begun a national campaign intended to discourage Canadians from pointing lasers at aircraft. The campaign, called "Not a Bright Idea," works to educate consumers about the dangers of pointing lasers into airspace, as well as the potential consequences and how incidents can be reported. The initiative begins with a website at <http://tc.gc.ca/notabrightidea> and social media activities. These will be followed later this summer by digital advertising, online videos and a direct mail campaign near three major airports.

"It should be a no brainer that pointing lasers at any part of an aircraft is dangerous," said Alice Wong, Minister of State for Seniors. "This awareness campaign will help Canadians better understand the serious risks and consequences of pointing a laser at an airplane. By working closely with our partners, we can help to reduce the number of incidents at Canada's airports."
