Federal government conducts drug abuse campaign

The Government of Canada has begun a marketing campaign intended to encourage parents to talk with their teenaged children about the dangers of drug abuse. The initiative specifically addresses risks associated with prescription drugs and marijuana. The campaign will run until December, comprising seven weeks of television advertising and 10 weeks of web-based materials and social media activities. The creative focuses on the harmful effects of drug abuse on the developing brains and bodies of teenagers.

"Drug abuse has devastating impacts on Canadians, especially youth," said Minister of Health Rona Ambrose. "We are launching a marketing campaign with the goal of equipping parents with the necessary tools to talk with their children and teens about the harmful effects of substance abuse. This campaign is part of our government's ongoing commitment to address the dangers of marijuana use and prescription drug abuse among our children and youth."
