Shell begins Energy 4 Seven Billion contest

Calgary-based petroleum company Shell Canada has begun a contest promotion called "Energy 4 Seven Billion." According to the company, the intent of the promotion is to encourage consumers to think about the importance of energy use in their lives. Until Sept. 23, Canadians can enter online at <http://www.shell.ca/e47b> by submitting a description of a dream experience or project and the ways in which energy would be involved. Consumers can then promote their entry to friends and family via Facebook. The ten entries that receive the most social media attention will go to a judging panel. The grand prize winner will receive $25,000. The other nine finalists will receive secondary prizes.

"Energy supports nearly every aspect of our lives, but it's not always obvious where and how," said Lorraine Mitchelmore, president and country chair of Shell Canada. "We naturally tend to think of heating homes or driving, but thousands of basic necessities and consumer products are made possible by energy. This competition challenges people to think about how big a part energy plays, not only in their day-to-day lives, but also how it could shape their experience of a lifetime."
