ROGERS SELLS OFF SUBSCRIBERS
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Rogers Cablesystems has sold its systems serving St. Thomas and Tillsonburg, both in Ontario, for $23.1 million in cash to the Amtelecom Group. The deal unloads about 19,000 subscribers. The move was made because Rogers wants to focus on the Greater Toronto Area, the Guelph to London corridor and Ottawa, all in Ontario, and lower mainland British Columbia. Amtelecom operates three independent telephone companies in Ontario and two cable systems in Southern Ontario. Earlier this month Rogers sold other Ontario systems serving 300,000 subscribers to Quebec-based Cogeco Cable Inc.
