AGENCIES JOIN FORCES IN LITERACY PROJECT
By Adnews Staff
Twenty-six advertising agencies from across Canada have lent their creative abilities to The Canadian Book of ABCs, a project that will help raise funds for ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation, based in Toronto. The main component of the project is a book of ABCs, with each letter of the alphabet featured in a double-page spread created by one of the agencies. It is marked by a Canadian theme and is designed for pre-school children. Some of the creations are wacky, others abstract and others closely linked to the Canadiana theme, ABC CANADA spokesperson Shelley Soles told Adnews yesterday. It will be available Oct. 23 through mail orders and fax requests, with a search currently under way for a bookstore to carry it. Quebecor Printing Inc. is the leading sponsor of the project, providing production and printing services. Special awards will be handed out on October 23 for entries demonstrating the best use of humour and colour, with other awards recognizing the most Canadian page, as well as a prize for the book's best page. A panel of high-profile judges will make the decisions, including author and broadcaster Peter Gzowski.
