TV STATION SEES PROMO OPPORTUNITIES IN SPACE

CHCH sees three dramatic series as the highlights of its new offerings for the fall season: Space, American Gothic and The Client. Space is probably the FOX network's number one show this year, says Jim Macdonald, president of the station which broadcasts out of Hamilton, Ont. and covers a signficant portion of southern Ontario. CHCH is in the stable of TV stations belonging to Vancouver-based WIC Western International Communications. Macdonald says FOX is said to have done a large merchandising deal with Space, which will lead to many promotional opportunities for CHCH. This series features a "brave band of neophyte fighter pilots (which) are all that stand between Earth's freedom and alien domination. One of the show's writers also worked on the popular X-Files series. American Gothic features a resident returning to a rural community in North Carolina that is in the hands of an evil sheriff. The Client is based on the book (also made into a movie) from the best selling American author of legal potboilers, John Grisham. American Gothic and The Client will both air on CBS in the U.S. CHCH is also pinning some of its its ratings hopes on two returning series, Hope & Gloria and Newsradio. Most of the station's schedule remains the same as last year.
