NEW COMPUTERS FROM SILICON GRAPHICS
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Silicon Graphics is introducing a new line of high-end three-dimensional graphics workstations to the North American market in September. Called High Impact and Maximum Impact, the machines use 200 and 250 megahertz MIPS R4400 processors. The Power Indigo Maximum Impact has a 75 megahertz R8000 chip. With these computers, users can blend 3-D and 2-D objects in a fully textured 3-D environment. They can design products from cars to airplanes to oil and gas rigs. This type of workstation has developed special effects for movies such as Jurassic Park and Forrest Gump. Advertising for Silicon Graphics in North America is done by Cole & Weber of Seattle. In Canada, media buying is done in-house. Advertising plans for the new machines have not yet been confirmed.
