TC Media buys Courrier Frontenac, Les Editions Caractere

TC Media of Montreal has acquired the print and Internet publishing assets of Courrier Frontenac, a weekly newspaper with a circulation of over 22,000 copies serving Thetford Mines and the surrounding area. The purchase includes the website at <http://www.courrierfrontenac.qc.ca> and the paper's door-to-door distribution activities. Courrier Frontenac already had an agreement with TC Media to distribute Publisac to approximatley 22,000 households in the region. This operation will now be owned and managed by TC Media. "Courrier Frontenac has a very loyal readership," said Serge Lemieux, vice-president of the newspaper division for Quebec and Ontario at TC Media. "It has carved out a special place for itself as a local information leader in the Thetford Mines community, thanks to its quality, engaging content. TC Media is proud to be joined by this talented team which produces one of the most popular weeklies in Quebec, with a readership rate of more than 95%." No financial details are available.
TC Media has also acquired Les Éditions Caractère, a Quebec-based publisher of supplemental educational and trade books. TC Media will add its operations to its existing Chenelière Éducation and Les Éditions Transcontinental publishing units. The three units will be regrouped under a new book division. "Given its expertise and unique network, both in commercial terms and in editorial content, Les Éditions Caractère is the acknowledged leader in the supplemental publishing market in Quebec," said Jacques Rochefort, senior vice-president of TC Media's book group. "We are proud to continue the company's operations with the help of its senior executives, Marc and Alain Laberge, who have more than 25 years of experience in the book industry and will be bringing their expertise to our team of professionals."
