Penny Kane has been promoted from the position of senior broadcast buyer to that of broadcast manager at DDB Canada. She has been at the Toronto-based agency almost five years, most recently handling media buying for 20th Century Fox. Her new job will involve managing the broadcast group, analyzing the industry and taking on a broader group of accounts, including Panasonic and Columbian Coffee. Prior to her arrival at DDB Canada, Kane worked at Scali McCabe Sloves and Bates Canada. Karen Osak is stepping in to take responsibility for the 20th Century Fox account. Out on the west coast, John Hall and Mary Birchard have been appointed account directors at Grey Advertising (Vancouver) Ltd. Hall will be looking after overall account management and strategic development for VanCity. He was previously responsible for strategic planning for London Drugs and Ford of Canada at Young & Rubicam. Birchard will be managing the account and planning the strategy of B.C. Hydro, the Port Corporation of Vancouver and the Liquor Distribution Branch. Also at Grey Vancouver, Flick Hatcher has been promoted from creative director to vice president, creative director. Before coming to Grey, Hatcher was creative director of his own 30-person shop in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has also worked at Lawler-Ballard and McCann-Erickson/Houston.
