Metro English Canada promotes MetroPlay

Metro English Canada will debut a new publication called MetroPlay in Toronto today. The product is a games-oriented brand extension of the Metro commuter newspaper. It will be distributed in print, online at MetroPlay.ca and through a smartphone application to be released later this month. The free publication will offer games such as Sudoku, crossword puzzles and other word games provided by syndication company King. MetroPlay will have a circulation of 100,000 and be distributed each weekday afternoon. "We are really excited to offer this fun, free games product to our readers, who have played an important part in the development of MetroPlay," said Irene Patterson, publisher of MetroPlay. "In addition, our advertisers have responded with overwhelming support for a product that reaches urban commuters at an important time of day for purchase decisions." The launch of MetroPlay is being promoted with a marketing campaign consisting of radio ads on Flow 93.5, in-store promotion and advertising in Metro. In addition, promotional workers will hand-distribute copies of the publication along with branded pencils during the afternoon rush hour in at high-traffic commuter location downtown for two weeks. Until the end of September, promotional efforts will also include hopscotch chalk art on sidewalks and demonstrations of double-dutch skipping near MetroPlay distribution points.
