ING Direct conducts online contest aimed at children

Online bank ING Direct has launched a web-based game called Planet Orange intended to teach children about money management. The game, located at <http://www.orangekids.ca>, features two child characters who travel to various planets where they can earn and spend money. The site also includes a contest component, conducted in association with Owl and Chickadee magazines. To enter, players must complete the first mission of the game, pass a quiz on its contents, print out a certificate and mail it in. The winner will receive $250 in an ING Direct children's savings account, a piggy bank and a book about money from Owlkids Books. Secondary prize packages including $100 and $50 accounts will also be awarded. The contest will run until Aug. 31. "We want to help kids learn that saving money can be fun," said Peter Aceto, president and CEO of ING Direct. "On Planet Orange, kids get to play a number of adventure games that help them discover the importance and value of money. We believe that exploring the concepts of earning, spending and saving in a virtual world will go a long way in preparing kids for their real world savings adventures."
