Sony Ericsson conducts online World Cup contest

Sony Ericsson has brought a contest promotion to Canada as part of its sponsorship of the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament. The contest, called the "Sony Ericsson Twitter Cup," will pit the tournament's 32 participating teams in an online competition to gain votes from consumers. Consumers can submit votes online or by mobile phone. Each round of voting will be determined by messages submitted to the contest's Twitter page. The results of each round of voting will be tracked on Sony Ericsson's World Cup website. "Sony Ericsson is dedicated to providing football fans with the best experience of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, giving them more ways to support their team, share their views and get involved with all aspects of the beautiful game," said Peter Farmer, marketing director at Sony Ericsson Canada. "The Twitter Cup will put Sony Ericsson at the heart of the first World Cup to celebrate the advent of social networking, and will be part of a series of initiatives that will enrich their experience and enable them to communicate via mobile devices like never before."
