BMO Capital Markets puts barcodes in ads

BMO Capital Markets of Toronto has added barcodes to some of its weekly advertisements. The ads, which are running in the Wall Street Journal, can be scanned with the camera in a cellphone or PDA. A software application on the phone of participating readers will then link the ad to a customized web page with more information. "Our clients are increasingly on the go," said Rick Kuwayti, head of marketing at BMO Capital Markets. "This innovative technology gives advertising a much more powerful punch by putting valuable information into the hands of a growing segment of mobile users at precisely the moment they want it." BMO Capital Markets is the investment and corporate banking arm of BMO Financial Group.
