DESIGN AWARDS

Crinion Associates of Toronto walked away a double winner at the fourth annual Design Effectiveness Awards in Toronto last week. The industrial design firm took the top honor in the product design category andthe best in show prize, for a new line of office systems furniture created for The Knoll Group. PMA Landscape Architects/Greenery Unlimited also won two awards. It won in the public and leisure spaces category, as well as the environmental innovation award. Designs are judged on quality and effectiveness as competitive business tools. "There is a growing recognition by Canadian companies that good design is good business," selection jury chair Bill Meldrum says in a release. "That's the reality which the Design Effectivenness Awards celebrate." Other winners are: Spencer Francey Peters, Rogers Cantel; Donald Bell Design Consultants, The Benjamin Koyman Group; Zeidler Roberts Partnership/Architects, Hospital for Sick Children; A.J. Diamond, Donald Schmitt and Company, Richmond Hill Public Library Board; Mackerel Interactive Multimedia, Toyota Motor Sales. The awards are organized by The Group for Design in Business, and sponsored by The Financial Post and Design Exchange.
