Greater Vancouver Crime Stoppers prepare new campaign

Greater Vancouver Crime Stoppers has prepared a campaign of public service announcements in response to a recent increase in violence in that city. The campaign, which uses the tagline, "You remain anonymous, criminals don't," encourages people to report crime and suspicious behaviour. It includes out-of-home and print advertising, developed pro bono by DDB Canada of Vancouver. The four executions focus on street crime, unsolved homicides, gun crime and gang violence. Each ad shows a crime in progress, with nearby witnesses pixelated for anonymity. "Pixelation is instantly recognized and commonly associated with the reporting of criminal activity," said Dean Lee, creative director at DDB Canada. "But this time it's used to illustrate the anonymity of providing crime-solving tips. People need to realize their tips are completely anonymous, that tipsters have nothing to fear and can make a real difference in helping make Vancouver a safer city to live in." The campaign will begin next week in The Vancouver Province and other publications, as well as on billboards, transit shelters, buses, and washroom posters. Radio and television ads will be released in the spring.
