Frito Lay Canada begins Doritos Guru contest

Frito Lay Canada has begun a contest promotion in support of its Doritos brand of tortilla chips.The national contest, called "Become the Doritos Guru," is intended to find a name for a new flavour of chip. Entrants are invited to submit a 30-second commercial illustrating "what the flavour inspires in them." Submissions can be uploaded at <http://www.doritosguru.ca> until March 18. The ads will be posted online. A panel of judges will select five finalists. Public voting will determine the winner. The winner will be declared the Doritos Guru and receive $25,000 and one percent of the Canadian net sales of that flavour. The winning commercial will also be aired on television nationally. Voters are also eligible for daily and weekly prizes. "At Doritos, we're all about breaking new ground and putting the consumer in control," said Tony Matta, marketing vice-president at Frito Lay Canada. "This contest is an opportunity for Canadians to show their creativity and walk away with some serious cash." The contest is being promoted with a Facebook page as well as national television and online advertising. Until the end of the contest, the new flavour is being sold in plain white packaging.
