Alliance Films debuts DVD marketing technology in Canada

Montreal-based distributor Alliance Films has included a new marketing technology from Sony on the DVD of Sex and the City: The Movie, released yesterday. According to the company, this is the first time this technique has been used in Canada. When played on an Internet-connected computer, the DVD provides access to a website containing various promotional offers. These include a sample chapter of a Sex and the City book from HarperCollinsCanada, cocktail recipes from Skyy Vodka and a gift card offer from SellOffVacations.com. Viewers can also win screening passes to upcoming Alliance releases. Further offers will be added later. A dynamic area of the DVD will remind viewers to check the site for new material. "DVD consumers are used to static bonus content, like extra footage or director interviews on their special edition discs," said Noah Segal, executive vice-president at Alliance Films. "Though Sex and The City: The Movie has those too, this is something different. With the dynamic power of a Web-based marketing campaign, we can feature revolving offers for special products and other fun and exciting material related to the film that is only available if you've purchased the DVD."
