The Brick readies Red Friday promotion

Edmonton-based retail company The Brick Group will conduct a promotion called "Operation Red Friday" on Nov. 28. The company intends the day to be a Canadian version of Black Friday in the US, which takes place at Thanksgiving and is generally considered to mark the start of the holiday shopping season. The Brick stores will be open from 7 am to midnight on the day of the event and will offer discounts on various products. The one-day initiative will be promoted with television commercials and the distribution of 10 million flyers. The company is also encouraging other retailers to conduct their own Red Friday promotions. "Spending by Canadians in the US increased over the past year so we believe that Operation Red Friday will provide an added incentive for Canadian consumers to stay at home and enjoy great savings as they begin their holiday shopping," said The Brick president and CEO Kim Yost."Operation Red Friday will be an important first step for Canadian retailers to support the very important fourth quarter or Golden Quarter, and it will provide Canadians with an amazing value shopping day before Christmas."
