Eczema awareness campaign begins

The Ottawa-based Canadian Dermatology Association has begun a national eczema awareness campaign that will run through the winter. The campaign is intended to educate Canadians about the condition and its treatment. It consists of three radio public service announcements, a section of the Dermatology.ca website and a brochure in English, French and Inuktitut that will be distributed through the offices of health care providers. According to the association, approximately six million Canadians are affected by eczema. "Eczema is a common problem in the fall and winter months," said association president Larry Warshawski. "With lower humidity from indoor heating, the skin dries out and becomes irritated faster. That's why winter and fall are critical times for patients to learn how to treat and manage this condition."
