MACLAREN HOOKS UP TO MODEM, MAY GET MORE

MacLaren McCann of Toronto launched a national campaign this week for Motorola Information Systems of Toronto. It uses print, radio and point-of-purchase materials to promote Motorola's consumer SURFR fax modems. The campaign ties into Motorola's sponsorship of the 1996 Olympics. The campaign includes a contest offering consumers the chance to win a trip for two to the Olympics. MacLaren McCann won the modem portion of Motorola's business in mid-April without a review. The agency had been working for Motorola on a project basis since last November. If all goes well, MacLaren McCann could gain more business from Motorola over the next year, such as its networking products. In the past Motorola has used U.S. agencies on a project basis. Motorola's Canadian office localized the U.S. ads and handled the media buy in-house.
