HOT DOG-ON-A-STICK SERVED UP IN ATLANTIC

Artel Inc. of Boisbrand, Que. is running advertising for its POGOs in English Canada for the first time. The company launched a 30-second TV commercial for the product in Atlantic Canada this week, created by Allard Communication-Marketing of Montreal. Artel bought the nationally distributed product two years ago and has been advertising it only in Quebec. Now that the company is big enough it wants to expand its advertising, Allard senior vice-president Patrick McLean told Adnews yesterday. The company has yet to decide whether to roll the advertising to other parts of Canada. A POGO is a heat-and-eat wiener covered with corn batter on a stick. The commercial features a conversation among three teenagers punctuated by the offer of a mother of more POGOs and a chance to become part of family film history, much to the chagrin of her son. Artel also makes a line of oriental dishes under the Yin Yang name, a line of taco shells and taco fixings and private label pizza pockets for Loblaws.
