NADbank releases newspaper readership figures for Toronto, Montreal

Toronto-based NADbank has released the data from the Toronto and Montreal markets from the first half of its 2005 study. According to the results, 78% of adults read a daily newspaper in the past week in Toronto, while 77% read a daily paper in Montreal. Average readership for any paper is 48% in Toronto, down from 51% in NADbank's full-year study from 2004. In Montreal, overall readership remains stable at 53%, compared to 54% in 2004. In Toronto, the most popular paper is the Toronto Star, read by 24% of respondents on an average day. The Toronto Sun follows at 12%, along with The Globe and Mail at nine percent and the National Post at five percent. In Montreal, Le Journal de Montreal is the most popular paper, read by 23% of respondents on an average day, followed by La Presse at 16% and The Gazette at 11%.
