Telus to sponsor 2009 World Police and Fire Games

Telus has signed a five-year sponsorship deal worth $1.6 million with the British Columbia 2009 World Police and Fire Games. The games are expected to attract approximately 14,000 athletes from 70 countries. They will take place in the Lower Mainland from July 31 to Aug. 9, 2009. Events will include traditional sports such as swimming and soccer, plus specialty competitions such as pistol combat and stair races. "We are delighted that Telus is the first corporation to step up and support these games," said Games director Jeff Clark. "Telus brings the games an important financial boost, as well as critical telecommunications and technology expertise and local knowledge."
