OLC TAKING OVER FOR WESTERN COUSIN

The Western Canada Lottery Corp. is shutting own most of its operations to save money. Total staff cuts will be completed by September. Ontario Lottery Corp., with headquarters in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., will take over lottery operations for Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. However, the WCLC will still decide which lottery games will be available in the three provinces. Although the OLC will market the western lotteries, current WCLC ad agencies will continue to handle lottery advertising in the western provinces, WCLC spokesman John Matheson told Adnews yesterday. The western ad agencies are Palmer Jarvis Advertising of Vancouver and Parallel Strategies of Calgary. With the change of administration, operating expenses could drop 30% to 40% in the first year, the WCLC estimates. The lottery corporation has its head office in Winnipeg and handles marketing at its Stettler, Alta. office.
